About Us

The Anchorage Retirement Village is located on the idyllic Marsden Cove waterways, only a 30 minute drive South of Whangarei, or two hours North of Auckland.

The resort-like community amenities include a bowling green, restaurant and bar, library, and indoor games area, with a pool and gym coming in the near future. Residents are able to enjoy the use of the Village’s own beach, and can launch their vessels from the private boat ramp.

Within a short distance, residents can easily walk or cycle to the nearby eateries, shops, beaches, and medical centre located at Marsden Cove.

Construction on the Village commenced in 2016, and soon after, Hoppers opened the Anchorage Retirement Village to its first residents in 2018. The first of its kind, located on the waterfront at Marsden Cove, the Anchorage was thoughtfully designed to offer residents a unique retirement opportunity to live on the water.

Andy & His Nana, Doreen

It's a fill-your-cup type scenario when you are part of creating a retirement village that you believe so wholeheartedly in, and so much so that you want your own grandparents to live there. That's exactly what Andy Grey, shareholder and Director of Hopper Living village, The Anchorage, did with his Nana, Doreen.

"Her being the first resident, allowed us to kick off with some confidence, and that she could help us shape the Village and how the community should be, and provide us, as a source of information, giving her aspect and perspective on design, as we are particularly customer driven in design. You can’t beat customer feedback, and I always knew she would give authentic honest feedback which is important to me" - Andy Grey, Shareholder & Director of Hopper Living

I’m able to garden, and there are few villages that allow the activity, and I enjoy the people who are walking about the village and stop in to have a chat while I’m outside tending to my garden. Sometimes there’s not much gardening taking place because I’m spending too much time chatting to people. There’s always tomorrow. I enjoy chatting as much as I enjoy my gardening.”

Why Hopper Living?

What makes us different from our competitors is that we are family owned and operated. The Hopper Family of Hopper Developments, who have been residential property developers for over 70 years, are proudly non-corporate and operate privately. We care, we are involved and invested in what we do, and the products and services that we provide.

Our point of difference:

  • Family owned and operated

  • Offer share in capital gains

  • We encourage residents’ representation by creating their own Resident Association Group within each Village.

  • Our Villages are bespoke designs. We take thoughtful consideration in the design and development, with in mind, the use of spaces for practicality, ease, and accessibility for our residents.

  • Management of our Villages is focused on providing tailored service and care. Our shareholders extend to the wider Hopper family, and some are involved with our Villages on a personal level.

  • Our Village age of entry is in general, lower than that of our competitors.

  • Our Villages are all pet-friendly
